The CARI guidelines. Screening tests for diagnosis of renal artery stenosis.

چکیده
• Gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is highly sensitive in detecting atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (RAS) and is significantly more accurate in excluding the disease. Gadolinium-based imaging should be avoided in patients with glomerular filtration <30 mL/min per 1.73 m because of the risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. • Spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) is an accurate, minimally invasive screening test especially suited to diagnosis of RAS due to fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD). • In an optimal sonographic setting, duplex ultrasonography (DU) is a useful non-invasive screening test in patients with renal insufficiency.

MITRAL STENOSIS COMPLICATED BY RENAL ARTERY EMBOLISM
Six patients with mitral stenosis complicated by renal artery embolism studied prospectively are presented. In five patients there was unilateral and in one patient bilateral renal artery involvement. The diagnosis was confirmed by intravenous pyelography, retrograde pyelography, renal angiography, renal scan or a combination of these. All had atrial fibrillation, proteinuria and elevated ...

ABSTRACT Renal artery stenosis is one of the treatable causes of systemic hypertension in children. For years surgery was the treatment of choice, but recently PTRA (Percutaneous Transluminal Renal Angioplasty) has been successfully performed for relief of the stenosis. This method compared with surgery is safe, simple and has lower complication rate. At times stent placement is performed in co...

Introduction: Renal artery stenosis is the most prevalent disease of renal artery and has an important role in making hypertension and renal atrophy. Since in previous researches, despite high frequency of risk of cardiovascular disease in Iran, there did not exist any general research investigating risk factors of coronary artery disease and incidence of contemporary renal artery stenisis, ...
متن کاملThe CARI guidelines. Natural history and progression of atherosclerotic renal vascular stenosis.
• Atherosclerotic renovascular stenosis is a potentially progressive disease. • Risk factors for progressive stenosis and renal artery occlusion include: – uncontrolled systolic hypertension (>160 mmHg) – diabetes mellitus – high grade (>70%) ipsilateral and contralateral atherosclerotic renal vascular disease (ARVD), and – significant baseline proteinuria. • Risk factors for atrophy include: –...
متن کاملRenal artery stenosis: a cardiovascular perspective.
BACKGROUND Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is an important clinical entity that can lead to uncontrolled hypertension and progressive renal failure. The most common causes of RAS are atherosclerosis and fibromuscular dysplasia. Because the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension is established only when revascularization of a stenosed renal artery results in cure or improvement in patients hypertens...
